At Bird Island, we pride ourselves on offering a unsurpassed experience for retreat leaders and participants, but we are also aware that our venue isn't for everyone. We are in a pristine, remote location (visits to town require a 40-minute taxi ride), we are off-grid (with abundant solar power, but no air conditioning or hair dryers), our accommodations are stylish and comfortable (but not luxurious).

Our owners are devoted yogis, and our vision is to create a tropical haven for retreats, teacher trainings, and mind-body workshops. We promote healthy living, plant-forward diets, and yoga philosophy in everything we do. We welcome feedback from retreat leaders, so we can continually improve the Bird Island retreat experience. From the moment you inquire to the day you depart Bird Island, we do our best to curate a life-changing experience that everyone will cherish for years to come.

 2. We provide intimacy, privacy, and nature in abundance 

Bird Island is a sanctuary for groups seeking tranquility, focus, and up-close encounters with wildlife and nature. Our property includes 12 acres of lush rainforest, two private beaches, and access miles of jungle trails and undeveloped coastline. Encounters with other human beings are rare, but interactions with monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, and an abundance of other flora and fauna are a daily occurrence.

3. We treat our guests like family

Our team genuinely looks forward retreats, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded souls from far away places. We focus on the success of the retreat and well-being of the participants, and in the process genuine friendships often develop between staff and guests. We might guide you on uncharted hikes, join you for a sunset meditation, or help you discover the natural wonders of the Panamanian rainforest. And we may shed a few tears when you inevitably must return home.​

4. We pride ourselves convenience and safety

Panama is generally considered the safest country in Central America, with a stable democracy and low crime rates. It can be reached via direct flights from many US cities, the currency is the US dollar, and the infrastructure (roads, airports, and public transportation) are top notch thanks to abundant revenue from the Panama Canal. Bird Island is a remote sanctuary, but easily reached by taxi from the Bocas del Toro airport. 

5. We offer exceptional value

The advantage to booking a retreat in Panama, compared with venues in Mexico and Costa Rica, is that the a lower cost of living allows us to provide comparable food and lodging at a lower price. We don't require fixed dates, or a minimum number of nights, and we offer a variety of meal plans catering to different dietary needs. We are flexible, and reasonable, and eager to collaborate with retreat leaders to craft an experience tailored to their vision and their budget.
